Expressions in Bloom founder, Chris Austermann, developed a love of photography at an early age. He was first inspired by his grandfather, when he was gifted his classic Leica, cira 1950’s Chris’ father, Donald, was also an avid photographer who captured hudreds of great photos from various travels. He often enlarged the images and invested in high quality framing for personal wall art and gifts. 

When he was 13, Chris bought his first single lens reflex camera from the money he earned cutting lawns, shoveling snow and delivering the local daily newspaper. In high school, he went on to take all available photography classes and was a member of his yearbook staff. In college he became the exclusive year book photographer for his Senior Class. ​In 2008, Chris bought his first Nikon digital SLR. 

In February, 2009 during an excursion through Yellowstone National Park, he was inspired by a fellow traveler to start marketing his landscape and floral photography. It was at Jackson Hole ski resort where he became curious about the concept of Birth Month Flowers. ​He spent the next decade collecting images of all the monthly birth flowers he could find until he created his first edition of the Expressions in Bloom collection. 

Today, Chris is outfitted with a full-frame Nikon D850, and is rarely without his camera. As the spring and summer flowers take their turns blooming, Chris will be there to capture new images in all their changing beauty. They will be carefully curated for you to enjoy in the form of prints, wall art, unique gifts and popular merchandise.
